Research of interest

Equiatomic NiTi alloy possesses some desirable functional features applied in cardiovascular stents, dental arch wires or staples for osteosynthesis. However, a surface modification is necessary for NiTi alloys to prevent the release of nickel ion. In this joint research, NARL and ASCR (Czech) would like to develop a simple route for prevent potential release of nickel ion by using the atomic layer deposition (ALD). As a well-known film growth technique, ALD can allow good thickness control, low temperature compatibility, and excellent coating conformity over complex 3D structures. Czech would provide NiTi samples and understand the corrosion properties of NiTi with TiO2 and Al2O3 coatings prepared by using the ALD system in Taiwan side. It should be noted that ALD has been proven as a feasible tool for mass-production. Therefore, we also look forward to the commercializations of the ALD tool and NiTi stents with protection coatings.
